Imagine you run your online business and unexpectedly achieve a significant increase in sales without increasing your advertising spend because you have carried out a technical SEO analysis and then improved your SEO technique. I would like to briefly show you how this is possible without increasing your Google Ads spend.
Why should you take a technical SEO analysis seriously?
Even though we achieved a significant increase in organic traffic on our client’s site after optimizing the SEO technique, we cannot assume that this would happen for every website.
But you can’t ignore that:
The technical SEO analysis measures presented here are mostly one-off and can have a positive impact on your online marketing in the long term. In this article, you will learn everything you need to know to carry out a technical SEO analysis on your website and how you can use it to technically optimize your website.
Isn't a technical SEO analysis overrated?
In fact, there are some SEO experts, such as on the “Income School” YouTube channel, who recommend that your subscribers focus more on the content and the user than on any technology. Because technology would not improve the user experience on a website. That’s why Jim Harmer from Income School says that you could create an XML sitemap, for example, but that it wouldn’t matter in the end.
That’s intense …
For most SEO consultants, creating a sitemap is one of the basic rules and one of the first things that should be done when optimizing a website for search engines. A statement like the one above may come as a surprise to some.
But it’s still true:
The most important ranking factors today are user-related and no longer so technical. For Google, it is much more important whether someone finds the best possible search result on their website than whether a sitemap has been created or a certain keyword density is present.
That’s what matters:
But my practical experience of this is now somewhat more nuanced. In my opinion, you can’t compare a website with a website, because that would be like comparing apples with pears.
The SEO quality of old and new pages
And it was exactly the same in our case, because the website was several years old and many technical errors had been made over time, which made the website look poor in terms of quality.
This is quite normal when someone creates a website without sufficient experience. This is not meant to sound derogatory, but there are many factors, especially in SEO technology, for which you simply need some experience to know how to implement them.
Now, if an SEO expert is creating a brand new website, they are unlikely to make the same mistakes as a beginner, and so the technical analysis is less relevant. An expert will take care from the outset to label images before uploading them to a page, or think carefully about publishing pages before deleting them carelessly and frequently.
So if an SEO expert says that tools are useless and that SEO technology is not particularly relevant to him, then he can only say that because he doesn’t produce the technical errors in the first place.
This is where the difference lies. The SEO technique can be crucial, especially if your website has been around for a long time and there is a lot of content on your site.
Users of an SEO technical analysis
With technical SEO optimization, you can improve your website for a number of ranking factors. This does not directly improve your content or the quality of your service or products.
But if you already have good content or products, you can help search engines understand your website better. A fast-loading page improves the user experience. This was exactly the case with the website you see in the screenshot.
I would like to show you what we have optimized in this article.
How you can measure factors for technical SEO analysis
When I started analyzing the aforementioned website, I proceeded as follows. You can go through the steps with me right now.
Let’s do a technical SEO analysis now. It’s best to use the Google Chrome browser, which I also use. Open the Chrome Webstore to do this.
Tools for technical SEO analysis:
1. the Lighthouse extension for performance analysis
Enter the term “Lighthouse” in the Chrome Webstore. You will then quickly find the Lighthouse extension, which you can use to analyze the speed and general performance of your website.
If the extension is installed on your computer, you can click on the icon in the top right-hand corner of the browser window. If it does not appear, then
To start the performance analysis, go to the page you want to analyze and then click on the Lighthouse extension icon. A new tab will open in which the results of the analysis will be displayed after approximately 30 seconds. You have the option of testing your site for desktop devices and mobile devices.

Performance analysis for mobile devices:
2. the SEO META 1 CLICK tool
Then download the “SEO META in 1 CLICK” tool by simply typing “seo meta” into the search field. As soon as the browser extension is active, you can create a technical SEO analysis of each individual page with just one click. This will be displayed in a small window.
This unique tool gives you detailed information about various ranking factors of a single page. “SEO META in 1 CLICK” provides valuable information about the headline structure or the labeling of images on a page.
The big advantage of this tool is that you get a visually simplified representation of numerous details that you would otherwise not have when editing a page.
Even if you are an experienced SEO expert, you may be surprised at how much potential for improvement there is in a website.
3. use the Google Search Console
The Google Search Console is free to use, but you will need a Google account. If you have a Google account, you can log in directly to the Google Search Console and enter your website there.
When you register your Google Search Console, you can use several methods for verification. The easiest way to do this is to select the site tag method. You can use an SEO plugin like Yoast or SEOpress for this. We use SEOpress because the tool offers a few more useful features, such as the automatic detection of redirect errors, which is part of the technical SEO analysis. This means that 404 errors in the Search Console can be almost completely eliminated.
It is free to use, but you will need a Google account. If you have a Google account, you can register directly with the and your website there.
Use the Search Console for technical analysis:
4. use Ubersuggest, Ahrefs or Ryte
Register with Ubersuggest or Ahrefs and request a free analysis of your website. Here, too, you can obtain valuable details about your site that you hadn’t thought of before.
Specifically, I mean that there may be pages that are not crawled or indexed properly without you knowing it. You may have (perhaps accidentally) marked a page with “no index” in the past. Tools like Ubersuggest and Ahrefs can help you identify and fix such issues by notifying you with alerts.
5. use an SEO plugin
While you are working on the content of your website, an SEO plugin such as SEOpress can be a useful aid. It points out technical factors and helps you to implement them.
An SEO plugin is almost necessary if you don’t want to program everything yourself. For example, structured data is part of technical SEO optimization. With an SEO plugin, you can insert structured data relatively easily and it will notify you if no structured data is available. Structured data is particularly important for local stores or recipe blogs.
Control checklist for your technical SEO analysis
Now that you have a range of useful SEO tools at hand for analysis, you can work through the following checklist to optimize your site for maximum technical performance:
Analyze all images on the entire website for captions and ALT texts.
Check the heading structure. Check how many headings you have in H1 format, whether they are present at all and whether the remaining headings are hierarchically subordinate.
Check the loading speed of your pages
Check whether all pages are indexable and indexed. The imprint and privacy policy may be an exception here
Check the entire website for redirect errors or 404 errors
My final tip:
Don’t forget that technical optimization can only be as good as your content. By technically improving your website, you can only unleash the potential that already exists in the content, products or services you offer.
If you have low-quality content on the page, then you can analyze and optimize your website as much as you want, it will only help in the short term or not at all.
Content is king and SEO technology is the throne on which it sits. As far as I’m concerned, content is also the queen.
